Hello everybody, Irina Holzinger here.
I hope you’re all well and coping with the current situation as best as possible...
I wanted to give you a little update on what the band’s been up to these past few months, despite the restrictions that prevented us from playing live.
But before I do that we want to express our solidarity and sympathy with all the people out there whose livelihood and mental and physical health has been so hugely affected by the current situation. And of course, to all our colleagues on and off stage: we miss you, we still see you and we will support you in any way we can! I tend to end my posts with “be kind, always”. And it sounds childish to some, inconsequential to others. I believe, however, that any act of kindness marks a true resistance in a climate of division, mostly motivated by fear and by a feeling of standing alone against all others. “Be kind” is also a way of focusing your energy on what matters. Instead of focusing your energy on all that’s unnerving and even infuriating, try extending a helping hand. Just because… Just because…

As we had to cancel all their upcoming concerts, we had a little bit of time to focus on writing new songs and to record a few songs at Linster Studios, with the incomparable Werner Pensaert (https://wernerpensaert.com). His guidance and input have made us grow and we’ve learned a lot. We hope to be able to drop something new for the end of this year (don’t we all want this year to end…). In the meantime, you can have a look at some exclusive snapshots taken by our friend Lugdivine Unfer, whose lens always captures something special, the certain element you can’t truly put into words (so I won’t ;-)).
As you can see, we sat in the studio with our masks on, with the recommended distance. That wasn’t easy, as we’re usually pretty touchy-feely, but we managed. We’re very happy with the songs that we recorded and we can’t wait to perform them live, now that they have a true identity.
Due to recent developments we have decided to cancel all rehearsals until further notice. We don't want to take any risks and we do feel like we have to set an example. It’s hard. We are also currently working on new material and we’ve been “in the zone”, so to mark a pause right now is really annoying. But that’s just the way it is and we have our health and we have the internet :-)
Long story short: we miss you, we want to be on stage again and we’ll come back with even more hunger and energy!

The band started out as a musical pair: Irina and Kim met in 2009 and soon after their first little concerts in numerous Cafés in Luxembourg’s Minett region they recorded a sweet little record, in the privacy of their apartment. Over time they realized that it would be more fun and artistically challenging to have other musicians join the musical adventure. Since then, the musical family has grown and the band IRINA has become a band of many talents. Their music is dynamic, fun and driven by a unique voice. They have mainly been playing all over Luxembourg, with some pit stops in Belgium, France and Italy.
Born out of the encounter between Irina Holzinger (guitar and vocals) and Kim Mersch (guitar and banjolele), the band quickly records a first record, in all intimacy. After a while they wish to be surrounded by a band worth of it’s a name and the musical family gets bigger: Bob Mersch (keys and accordion), Davide Mirizzi (bass), Tom Roilgen (drums) and Erny Sauber (percussion) join the adventure…
